Amber J. Moody, 21, will appear in district court June 21 after she was charged with one misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree.

Her son, Ryland Moody, 3, was attacked and bitten by the family's 9-month-old pit bull terrier April 5, according to a report from the Baxter County sheriff's office.

Authorities responded to a call from Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, reporting a child was bitten by a dog April 5. The child had bite wounds around his head and face after he was bitten around 8 a.m., the report said. He was taken to Arkansas Children's Hospital and rushed into surgery.

An investigation revealed Moody adopted the dog in March. The Humane Society has a policy of not giving pit bulls to families with children, but Moody indicated "none" in the section of the form about children, the report said.
