Arkansas achievers

— Kayla Reynolds and Brayden McCurley are the recipients of the Operation RoundUp scholarship for the spring 2012 semester at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home.

Robert Van Cleave of Benton has been named the Army Corps of Engineers’ Little Rock District 2012 Engineer of the Year for his work as design coordinator and geotechnical engineer for the Clearwater Dam Major Rehabilitation Project. Van Cleave began work as a geotechnical engineer in 2001 for the Corps’ Little Rock District. He is a 1993 graduate of Arkansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in engineering.

Marlon Blackwell, a Distinguished Professor and head of the architecture department in the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas, has received a 2012 Arts and Letters Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The award recognizes architects whose work is “characterized by a strong personal direction” and comes with a $7,500 check. He and his fellow award winners will be celebrated at a May 16 event in New York City, and their work will be exhibited in the galleries of the American Academy of Arts and Letters from May 17 to June 10.

Silas Altheimer of Little Rock has been selected to participate in the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals. The federally-funded, yearlong fellowship includes a two month intensive German language course, study at a German university or professional school for four months, and a five-month internship with a German Company in his career field (Educational Administration).

Will Ward of Clinton has been presented the 2012 Zondervan/Williams Baptist College Greek Award. He is a senior majoring in Christian ministries and a graduate of Clinton High School. He is the son of Hal and Verna Ward.

Megan Strickland of Center Ridge is the 2012 recipient of Arkansas Farm Bureau’s Marvin Vines Memorial Scholarship. She is a broadcast journalism major at Arkansas State University and is the daughter of William and Magdalene Strickland.

Scotty Pollett of White Hall has been awarded a Glendale Scholarship at Williams Baptist College. The scholarship is awarded to freshman Christian ministry students who show unusual promise to the ministry. He is the son of Tim and Dorothy Pollett and is a graduate of White Hall High School.

Andrew Ramsey of Mountainburg has been awarded a Glendale Scholarship at Williams Baptist College. The scholarship is awarded to freshman Christian ministry students who show unusual promise to the ministry. He is a home school graduate and the son of Eric and Gaye Ramsey.

Arkansas Achievers is an opportunity to give recognition to those for their achievements.

Civilian and military achievements are accepted.
