TODAY Civil War Exhibit Opening BATESVILLE - An expansion of the Civil War exhibit “Occupied Territory, 1862” at the Old Independence Regional Museum will open at 2 p.m. today. The exhibit focuses on the two-month period when the Federal Army of the Southwest took possession of Batesville.

George Lankford will present a program on the subject at 2 p.m. The free program is open to the public. The museum is at 380 S. Ninth St., between Boswell and Vine streets in Batesville.

THURSDAY Care Caps Sew-In DAMASCUS - Care Cap Connections will hold a sew in from 9 : 30 a.m. to 2: 30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Damascus. This project, under the direction of founder Mary Philips, will introduce new volunteers to the “Care Cap Way” of cutting, pinning, sewing and packaging comfortable kerchiefs for those who have gone through or are going through cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy. SATURDAY Fishing Derby RUSSELL - The sixth annual Hope Outdoors Fishing Derby will begin at 8 a.m. in Russell.

Directions to the location are available to all participants and volunteers. Volunteers will be expected to assist anglers by baiting hooks and getting fish off hooks. Fishing will last until around noon. Lunch will be provided. Then, guest speaker Chuck Farneth, a world-renowned fly fisherman, will serve as guest speaker. Civil War in Arkansas Program FAIRFIELD BAY - The Log Cabin Museum will present a program on Civil War in Arkansas at 11 a.m. Mary Hall will talk about the burial sites in Van Buren County, and at 1:30 p.m., Harmony, a band from Mountain View, will perform several Civil War songs.
