Sacred Heart wins stock market game

— Economics Arkansas held a luncheon honoring the winners of the Spring 2012 Arkansas Stock Market Game on May 2 at Verizon Arena. The first-place finishers in the Senior High Division/Region 1 were students Abby Bailey, Whiteny Bean and Irene Taylor, along with teacher Martha Briggler, from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Morrilton.

The stock market game gives students the chance to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in an online portfolio. Students strive to create the best-performing portfolio using a live trading simulation. They work together in teams and practice leadership, organization, negotiation and cooperation as theycompete for the top spot.

The state is divided into six regions for the competition, during which learning is a natural part of the experience.

Briggler’s accounting class had four teams who participated in the stock market game, with the winning team from Sacred Heart earning a profit of $12,783.65 in a 10-week period.
