Six freshmen named fellows at UA

— Six incoming freshmen have been named Bodenhamer Fellows at the Honors College at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Bodenhamer Fellowships provide each student $50,000 for four years of study or $62,500 if the student is enrolled in a five-year degree program.

The fellowship may also provide funds for studying abroad, attending conferences, conducting research and acquiring special equipment.

To be eligible to apply, students must score at least 32 on the ACT or at least 1400 on the SAT college entrance exams and have at least a 3.8 high school grade-point average.

Extracurricular activities, community service and evidence of intellectual curiosity and creativity are also considered in the selection process.

The incoming fellows are:

Collin McAdow of Bauxite, a graduate of Bauxite High School. At UA, he plans to study biological and chemical engineering.

Kelly McKenzie of Searcy, a graduate of Searcy High School. She plans to study engineering, with the long-term goal of developing low-cost solar technologies that outperform fossil fuels.

Ralph Miller of West Memphis, a graduate of West Memphis High School. He plans to major in engineering.

Armin Mortazavi of Hot Springs, a graduate of the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and Arts. He intends to pursue a medical degree and doctorate in biophysics so that he can conduct medical research.

Margaret Tinsley of Ozark, a graduate of Ozark High School. She plans to major in geology in preparation for a career of researching volcanoes.
