Second thoughts

— Gesture isn’t a hit with Royal

Defiant Cleveland closer Chris Perez has thrown some gas on the simmering rivalry between the Indians and Kansas City Royals.

The animated Perez angered Kansas City’s Jarrod Dyson with a gesture he made after strikingout the Royals outfielder in the ninth inning of Cleveland’s 8-5 victory Monday.

After striking out Dyson on three pitches, Perez walked off the mound and waved his hand in front of his face tomock Dyson, who was unaware of the gesture until seeing it later on videotape.

“It’s just terrible,” Dyson said.

“Nobody told me about it. As soon as I got done with my atbat, I went down to see wherethe pitch was, because I felt like the pitch was in, and I saw him do that and it [ticked] me off even more.”

Perez said teammate Tony Sipp, who is friends with Dyson, had told him the Royals weren’thappy with some comments Perez had made on Twitter about them and were “coming for me.”

During Monday’s game, Perez promised his teammates in the bullpen that if he struck out Dyson he would make the “you can’t see me” gesture popularized by pro wrestler John Cena.

Perez said before Tuesday’s game the gesture was in response to what Dyson told Sipp.

“That’s the only reason I did it.

I said, ‘All right, you’re coming for me, I’m coming for you.’ If I strike you out, you’re going to get the ‘can’t see me face.’ ”

“What happened? Three pitches. You can’t see me.” Woooh, wooooh!

A life-size sculpture of triple jump world record-holder Jonathan Edwards made of train parts has been unveiled at a London station leading to the Olympics.

The 770-pound sculpture is made of brake pads, seat frames and springs, among other things.

It commemorates the moment the British star paraded a Union Flag after winning the gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Edwards was at King’s Cross railway station for the unveiling.

He said the sculpture is “very striking and really took me aback when I saw it.”

British artist Ptolemy Elrington spent two weeks on the project. It will be displayed at key stations in England to raise awareness of rail travel to London this summer for the Olympics.

Burning desire

Logan Tuley-Tillman insisted he didn’t think it was a big deal when he posted a picture on his Twitter account of him burning an envelope from Ohio State.

The Michigan football recruit found out otherwise.

“It’s been kind of crazy,” Tuley-Tillman told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Tuesday.

The highly touted offensive tackle from Peoria, Ill., has committed to the Wolverines’ 2013 recruiting class and posted the photo Saturday.

“I wanted to do it and send a message because people kept saying I was going to flip to Ohio,” Tuley-Tillman said. “I don’t know why they sent me that letter when they know I’m committed to Michigan. I don’t like the state of Ohio or that school. I can’t wait to play them.”Quote of the day “I think we got screwed.” Coach Gary Henderson after Kentucky wasn’t included among the 16 host sites for the NCAA regional baseball tournaments
