— BASEBALL UALR’s Bignall semifinalist for Golden Spikes

UALR’s Sean Bignall has been named one of 30 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, which is given to the nation’s top amateur player.

Bignall established school records for home runs (18) and total bases (149), while becoming the first player in school history to have 60 runs and 60 RBI in a season. He ended the regular season ranked fourth in the nation in home runs, fifth in slugging percentage (.696), fifth in total bases and sixth in RBI.

A first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, Bignall led the conference in all four of those categories, as well as runs scored. His 64 RBI was one shy of the school record, while his 60 runs scored are third all-time at UALR.

GOLF Henderson State women sign three

Henderson State announced Tuesday that Katie Kilponen, Kendall Earp and Katie Flinn have signed national letters of intent to play for the Lady Reddies in the fall.

Kilponen joins the team after lettering four years at The Woodlands High School in Texas. She helped lead The Woodlands to two district championships.

Earp and Flinn were teammates the past two seasons at Texarkana College, where they helped lead their team to a pair of NJCAA national tournament appearances including a sixth-place finish this year.

Earp won the Southern Arkansas Rider Invitational last season. She finished tied for 30th at the NJCAA national tourname.

While at Crockett (Texas) High School, Earp finished in the top 10 at the state golf championship and captured the district and regional titles during her senior season.

Flinn tied for 40th out of 107 players at the NJCAA national tournament. She attended Chapel Hill High School where she was named Conference Player of the Year three times.
