— A Rover woman remained jailed Tuesday in the shooting death last week of her husband, after first telling police that he had committed suicide, authorities said.

The Yell County sheriff’s office arrested Stacey Lucky, 34, on Thursday after deputies were called to the couple’s home, where the body of Johnny Lucky, 26, was found lying on his bed with a gunshot wound in the head.

Stacey Lucky first told investigators that she and her husband had been arguing and that he then shot himself, according to a sheriff’s news release. But she later told sheriff’s Lt. Scott Moore that she had shot her husband in the head after he had assaulted her.

Sheriff’s Capt. and Chief Deputy John Foster said evidence found at the scene and preliminary reports from the state medical examiner’s office are consistent with investigators’ suspicion that the shooting was a homicide.

Formal charges have not been filed by the prosecuting attorney’s office but are expected later, Foster said Monday.

Stacey Lucky is being held in the Yell County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
