Mother arrested in prison escape

— The mother of one of two inmates who escaped from an Arkansas jail has been arrested on the suspicion that she provided him with a hacksaw blade, authorities said.

Miller County Sheriff Chief Deputy Duke Schofield said Wednesday that 55-year-old Charlene Stewart faces charges of furnishing implements for escape.

Schofield said Stewart was arrested Tuesday night on the Texas side of Texarkana. Authorities plan to extradite her to Arkansas, where formal charges had yet to be filed.

Authorities are searching for her son Quincy Stewart and his cellmate Cortez Hooper, who escaped from jail Monday.

Schofield said Stewart and Hooper, who are homicide suspects, used a hacksaw blade to saw metal bars on a jail window.
