Police investigate egg-throwing, fight with suspect

— Police investigating a report of a large group throwing eggs at people and vehicles in Little Rock ended up arresting a St. Louis man after a scuffle.

Javonte Washington, 29, is facing charges including second-degree battery on an officer, resisting arrest and loitering.

According to a Little Rock Police Department report, officers were circulating the area around the 700 block of South Center Street after getting a report of eggs being thrown shortly after midnight.

Police say they observed Washington leave a group walking on West Eighth Street. He reportedly refused to comply with officers' commands to stop.

"I then told Washington if he did not comply he would be placed under arrest," police wrote in the report. "Washington turned away from me, and began to walk south on Center. I attempted to handcuff the left hand of Washington. He jerked away from me. While trying to get Washington into custody, he began to punch me."

The scuffle continued until additional officers arrived and arrested Washington, the report said. Police say a search of his pockets revealed broken eggs.

The officer suffered "apparent minor injuries" in the fight, according to the report.

Washington was booked into the Pulaski County jail, where he remained Thursday morning in lieu of $10,000 bond.
