Youth baseball coach pleads guilty to sexual assault of a minor

A former youth baseball coach in Texarkana plead guilty Thursday to sexual assault on a minor in federal court.

According to a release from the United States' Attorney's Office, Western District of Arkansas, Walter Richard Roberts, 62, plead guilty to one count of transporting a minor in interstate commerce with the intent to engage in sexual activity.

Roberts served as a youth baseball coach from 1986-1994 in Texarkana where he "engaged in an extensive pattern of sexual assault that spanned several years" according to the release. In 1986 Roberts took a 9-year-old boy and a 10-year-old boy, both from Texarkana, Ark., to a supply store on the Texas side of the city. He then had both boys move to the back of the van, where he sexually assaulted them. Roberts also admitted to assaulting a third boy in his time as a coach.

The 10-year-old victim was also assaulted by Roberts in another incident during a trip to Wright Patman Lake.

Roberts faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
