LITTLE ROCK — A Memphis man died early Friday when the truck he was driving veered off Interstate 40 and then overturned on the highway.
It happened about 5:45 a.m. near the 180 mile marker, which is about three miles west of the Carlisle exit.
Arkansas State Police say Sylvester Givins, 41, was driving a tractor-trailer west on I-40 when he "for reasons unknown" lost control.
The truck traveled into the median and then back into the westbound lanes, where it overturned.
Givins was dead at the scene. A passenger, identified in a preliminary report as 42-year-old Sammie McDonald, was transported to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock with injuries believed to be serious.
Givins is the 449th person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
