EMMA CLARINE BARKER ESCH, 89, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Hospice Home Care Inpatient Facility on Bowman Rd. in Little Rock. She was born on February 24, 1923, in McKenzie, TN, to David Monroe and Clara Belle Barker.

She was preceded in death on August 16, 2012, by her beloved husband of 71 years, Beuron Richard Esch. She was also preceded by her parents;

her grandmother, Ella Chandler Barker, who raised her and her three siblings following the early death of their mother; her brother James Barker, who was killed in WWII; her sisters Evelyn Miller and Grace Brown Pryor. She is survived by her three children; Bill Esch (Sarah) of Overland Park, Kansas, Barbara Mills (Dennis) of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Brian Esch (Paige) of Franklin, Tennessee. She adored her six grandchildren;

Richard and Brad Esch, Hunterand Emily Clair Mills, and Carmen and Andrew Esch; and her two great-grandchildren, Caroline and Dylan Esch.

After WWII ended, Clarine and Beuron moved to North Little Rock where they raised their family, and she worked for several Little Rock department stores, including the Cotton Exchange, Red Crown Laundry Services, and the North Little Rock School District.

She was a very active, faithful member of Somers Avenue Church of Christ in NLR, where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher, nursery helper, and enjoyed her weekly Ladies Bible Class. She was especially known for her sweet nature and her gracious hospitality in serving her delicious desserts and casseroles, which were always enjoyed at family dinners and church potlucks. Over the years, she also provided many homemade birthday cakes for area nursing homes. Each year for four decades, she enjoyed volunteering at the Arkansas State Fair with her husband at their church’s booth to provide registrations for Bible correspondence courses. She was always active in her children’s schools and P.T.A. and was a Cub Scout den mother. Clarine especially enjoyed Murry’s Dinner Playhouse and family camping trips, but her greatest joys in life were serving her family and her church.

JOHN (JACK) GOOD of Little Rock passed away on October 31, 2012. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee on June 14, 1930 to Winnie and Sidney Good. He grew up in Pine Bluff and continued to reside there for 68 years, raising his family and running a local business. As a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday School for over 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Aubrey Good, and survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mardell. Other survivors who were dear to his heart were his sons John Jr. and Stephen, daughter, Kathleen Ederle, son-in-law, Walter Ederle, and granddaughters, Ashley and Mimi Ederle.

The family would like to thank those who supported him through this journey: Drs. Delbra Caradine, Melanie Pilcher, Drew Kumpuris, and Dean Kumpuris, Caregiver Tanya Steen and special thanks to caregiver Bessie Hardaway. Bessie’s devotion to “Mr. Jack” made it possible for his family to keep him at home.

A memorial service will be held Sunday November 4, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn Street. YVONNE ANNA DANIELSON WARD of Little Rock, passedaway Thursday, November 1, 2012. “Vonnie” was born on January 23, 1922 in Keene, Nebraska, the daughter of Carl Oscar and Anna Madsen Danielson. She received a degreein Music from Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio in 1943. She was blessed with a beautiful voice, giving her first solo performance at age three. She sang in operas, on stage, in various choirs and for the personal enjoyment of her friends for many years.

In 1949, while attending a USO dance, she met her future husband, Lt. Col Seth Ward, USMC. She and her Marine lived in Illinois and Texas before moving permanently to his hometown of Little Rock in 1962. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage before he passed away in July, 2000.

Vonnie was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral for over 50 years. She was a past president of The Aesthetic Club, and enjoyed her association with The Musical Coterie, The Cantorias, The Paschal Heights and Country Homes Garden Clubs, and The Thursday Book Club, and valued the many friendships she made with these organizations. She was a frequent volunteer for and contributor to the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, the Arkansas Arts Center and the Arkansas Opera. She also appreciated the many friendships formed upon her move to Woodland Heights in 2005 and the lively Sing-A-Longs they participated in. She will be remembered for many things, but especially for her love of her husband and family, her sense of humor, optimism and cheerful nature.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters, Ardyce Blume and Admyth Bennett and her brother, Wayne Danielson all of Denver, Colo. She is survived by her son, Seth Ward II and wife Anne of Little Rock, daughters Suzanna Hubbell and husband Webb of Charlotte, N.C., and Sally Smith and husband Al of Cleveland, Miss. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Seth Ward III (Kelly) and Jay Ward (Allison) of Little Rock, Kate Hargis (Aaron) of Fayetteville, Walter Hubbell(Missy) of Dallas, Rebecca Dietz (Greg) and Kelley Hubbell, of New Orleans, Caroline Yingling (Jeremy) of Charlotte, NC, Maria Gray of Little Rock and Jennifer Shelnutt of New Orleans as well as her great grandchildren, Will and Jake Hubbell, Kaelyn Gray, Phillip and Olivia Ward, Seth Ward IV, Mary and Allen Dietz and Lila and Rebecca Yingling. In addition, she is survived by her nieces Anne Bennett (Mac) of Hideaway, Texas, Susan Johnson (Gordon) of Wichita, Kan. and nephew, Bill Gordon of Little Rock.

BENTON - Mr. William Lee “Bill” Rhoads, age 90, passedaway on November 1, 2012, as the result of complications of Alzheimer’s from which he suffered for many years. He was the son of the Ida Lee Brister Rhoads and William ArnoldRhoads and was born in Vilonia, Arkansas on August 20,1922. Mr. Rhoads loved to drive the big rigs, the semis, the piggybacks, and the bob trucks and did so for 40 years. He drove for Atlas Transit, Arkansas Paper, Arkansas Best and a number of other trucking companies before finally retiring from Jones Truck Lines.

When he was not delivering his freight, he was working in volunteer fire departments. He helped establish the Clear Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the Alexander Volunteer Fire Department and served as fire chief for both agencies. He also served in the Baseline and Sylvan Hills Volunteer Fire Departments. He loved to buy and restore old cars and was a member of the Razorback Antique Auto Club. In addition he managed to get in some hunting and fishing and insisted on using his “lucky 13” lure. Bill’s dad, a farmer, passed away when Bill was just 15 years old and Bill brought in the crop that year by himself.

Bill married Wilma Mae James Rhoads on January 8,1945 and entered the U.S. Army shortly thereafter. He was on a ship headed for Germany when the “bomb” was dropped and his ship was diverted to Japan. He spent his entire enlistment in Japan and was honorably discharged on April 12,1947.

Mr. Rhoads was preceded in death by both his parents, his beloved wife, Wilma, and two sisters, Ruby Davidson and Kathleen Herrbach. He is survived by a son, Ronald Rhoads and wife Sarah and two daughters, Barbara Claypool and husband Joe and Carol Red and husband Wallace. He is also survived by grandchildren, Tina Hice (Marrion), Stephanie McCoy (Bart), Monte Red (Michelle), Michael Red (Lori), Valerie Barnett (Steve), Heather Ussery (Thomas), Kristy Jordan (Dusty) and Scott Red. Greatgrandchildren surviving him are Robin Salgado (Robert), Erica Faber (Robert), Tiffany Edwards (RayLee), Blake Lee, Daniel Hice, Haley Barnett, Samantha Lee, Garrett Red, Hannah Red, Caleb Red, Kristen Red, Eli Barnett, Callie Red, Rachel Barnett, Michael Red Jr., Cash Ussery, Jastyn Jordan, Corbin Ussery and Brielle Ussery and a great-great-grandchild, Ana-Olivia Salgado. Mr. Rhoads was of the Pentecostal faith and served faithfully in a number of positions in the various churches he attended over the years.

CONWAY - Dorothy Lee Allison Bridwell, 86, of Conwaypassed away peacefully Thursday, November 1, 2012. She was born April 19, 1926 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the oldest daughter of Robert and Christine Allison’s family often children. Dorothy was married to Floyd Preston Bridwell on December 22, 1948 until his death in 2002. They moved to Arkansas with their three children in 1966, first living in Hot Springs and then moving to Greers Ferry in 1970 where they owned the Narrows Boat Dock, Snug Harbor Dinner Theater, Chick n’ Lick restaurant, and Designer Glass, a stained glass studio. Dorothy was a member of the Higden Church of Christ and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary as well as the Optimist Club of Greers Ferry.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Judy (Clint) Triplett of Greers Ferry, and two sons, Robert (Chris) Bridwell of Conway and Randy Bridwell of North Little Rock. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Ashley (Nathan) Pyle, Matthew (Brandi) Bridwell, and Jim (Candy) Triplett, as well as six greatgrandchildren, with a 7th due Christmas Day of this year. Other survivors include three siblings, Monica (John) Cobb of Belton, Missouri, Mildred Clay of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Harold (Vavra) Allison of Huntsville, Alabama as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dorothy will be remembered fondly for her quick wit, independent spirit, culinary skills, and her artistic talent.

PINE BLUFF - Mrs. Geneva Byrd passed away Wednesday, October 31st, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas at the age of 94. Born in 1918 in Tamo, Arkansas, Mrs. Byrd lived in Arkansas her whole life, mostly in Jefferson County. She was a member of Jerusalem Number Three Church in Gethsemane, where she was Mother of the Church. She was also a member of The Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Wilkerson and Ozaner Hampton, her first husband HermanSloan, second husband John Byrd - to whom she was married at the time of his death, much-loved sisters Rosie Lee Culclager and Ruth, brother J. W. Wilkerson, and stepson John Lee Park. Survivors include cousin ErnestineMarshall, Marvin Turner, Elgie Walker, and a host of friends and extended family members, including all of the Edmond Freeman family - all of who loved her and who will cherish her memory forever.

Mrs. Byrd was a loving, kind, and inspiring mother, grandmother, and friend to many, helping shape many lives with her shining example, wisdom, kindness, and steadfast love. Devoted lifelong to her faith, she loved God, her family, friends, growing things, her beloved pets, and the Summertime. Mrs. Byrd was a powerful force, loved by all whose lives she touched. She was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed.

SHERIDAN - Johnie Raymond “J.R.” Hester of Sheridan,Arkansas was born February 11, 1931, in Bigelow, Arkansas, the son of the late John Little and Ruby A. Kisner Hester. He was a member of First United Methodist in Sheridan, hadretired from Farmers Insurance Group, had served in the United States Navy and for many years had owned and operated a grocery store at Hardin. Mr. Hester died Friday, November 2, 2012, at Heritage of Hot Springs at the age of 81.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Josh Easley. Survivors, wife, Norma Gress Hesterof Sheridan; son, Drs. ITASCA, Texas - John Meirose, 76, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at an area hospital with his family by his side. Funeral: 10 a.m., Tuesday in Arlington Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Arlington Funeral Home. Memorials: in lieu offlowers, memorial contributions may be made to Easter Seals or Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

John was born in Little Rock, Ark. to Sarah Luyet Meirose and Henry F.C. Meirose where he met his wife of 42 years, Mary Margeret Powell Meirose. While living in Little Rock, he became a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of The Order of the Eastern Star. John also served for 32 years in the Army National Guard. They later moved to Arlington, where John worked as a machinist at LTVVought until he retired in 2001.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Meirose and his parents, Sarah and Henry Meirose. Survivors: his loving companion, Patricia Williams; daughter, Star Meirose and partner, Dianna; sons, Keith Meirose and wife, Sondra; James Meirose and wife, Lisa; sisters, DeEtta Saunders and Lavonne Mitchell; grandchildren, Cherees, Sarah, Codey, Deanne, Jake, Taylor and Noah; and great-grandchildren, Elyzabeth, Persephone, Katie, Abigail and Keith Truett.

PANTEGO, Texas - James R. Dailey, formerly of McRae, Arkansas, died October 30, 2012. He was 88. He was born July 13, 1924 to the late William and Gertrude Dailey.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Stout Dailey; a son, James S. Dailey of San Francisco, California; a daughter, Beth Lane; son-in-law, Wynn Lane; and granddaughter Meredith Lane, all of Arlington, Texas; and two sisters, Adelene Bearden of Batesville and Freda Smith of Rogers. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Dailey and a sister, Irene Morris.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, a former member of the Arkansas National Guard, a former Arkansas teacher, educator and administrator, and was retired from the Arkansas Rehabilitation Service. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1950 from the University of Central Arkansas and a Master’s Degree from the University of Arkansas in 1954, and was a loyal Arkansas Razorbacks fan. He was a Methodist.

Services and interment were held on Friday, November 2, at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Beebe. Memorials may be made to the Dailey-Stout Teacher Scholarship Foundation of the University of Central Arkansas. www.westbrookfuneralhome.com.
