Women’s Foundation names philanthropist of the year

— Johnelle Hunt of Fayetteville was named Woman of the Year in Philanthropy on Oct. 26 at the 14th annual Power of the Purse Luncheon at the Peabody Little Rock hotel.

The Women’s Foundation of Arkansas hosted the event, and also announced its 2013 grant recipients. They are Arkansas Business Women’s Center, a project of Winrock International, and Connect Arkansas, to expand its eCommerce Entrepreneurship Training for Arkansas Girl Scouts into Washington, Pulaski and Sebastian counties.

Hunt said that she learned giving from her parents and noted that philanthropy is not necessarily about money and that “volunteering is just as big as the money you give.” She also commended volunteers for their work.

Hunt and her late husband, J.B. Hunt, are founders of the J.B. Hunt Co.

Keynote speaker was Chris Grumm, former chief executive officer of the Women’s Funding Network. Phyllis Brown served as event chairman.

The mission of the nonprofit foundation is to promote philanthropy among women and to help women and girls achieve their full potential.
