6 plead guilty to stealing from Louisiana housing agency

— A former executive director of the Homer Housing Authority and five other people have pleaded guilty to participating in a plot to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars in public money from the agency.

The authority’s former director, 34-year-old Michelle Green, of North Little Rock, Ark., pleaded guilty Oct. 29 to a theft charge.

Federal prosecutors say Green had more than $400,000 in checks issued to friends and relatives for work that wasn’t performed. The others allegedly cashed the checks and kicked back most of the money to Green, who was fired in April 2011.

Green and the other five defendants who also pleaded guilty each face maximum sentences of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Their sentencing is set for Feb. 12.
