Toro-Ramos named new UALR provost

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has appointed Zulma Toro-Ramos as provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs, Chancellor Joel E. Anderson announced Wednesday.

Toro-Ramos, dean of the College of Engineering at Wichita State University in Kansas, will assume the position Jan. 7, the university said in a statement. She will earn $227,186 per year.

She previously served as dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of New Haven, Conn., from 2001 to 2005, and as chancellor of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez from 1999 to 2001, UALR said.

The UALR provost leads six colleges: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Business; Education; Professional Studies; Engineering and Information Technology; and Science. The provost also leads two free-standing schools, the Graduate School and the Bowen School of Law.

Toro-Ramos holds a Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology; a master’s degree from the University of Michigan; and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico, according to UALR.
