— State Rep. Tracy Steele says one of his former opponents in the race for North Little Rock mayor will endorse him at a campaign event Thursday.

Steele received the most votes in Tuesday's election, but he didn't get enough necessary for winning outright. Instead, he will face second-place candidate Joe Smith in a Nov. 27 runoff.

Steele's campaign said in a statement that former candidate Mark Clinton will endorse Steele at a 2 p.m. event at Steele's headquarters, 413 Main St.

Clinton finished third in Tuesday's election with 1,793 votes. That was far behind Steele, who received 11,524 votes, and Smith, who got 9,820. John Parker finished fourth with 741 votes.

Steele, executive director for the nonprofit STAND Foundation, and Smith, the North Little Rock city administrator, are vying to replace Patrick Hays, the longtime North Little Rock mayor who chose not to seek reelection after six terms.
