A Beebe native has advanced to the top 12 on the NBC singing competition The Voice.

Cody Belew in a live show Wednesday night sang George Michael's "One More Try" in the program's first round where the public could vote for their favorite performance.

With the field narrowed to five singers on each of the show's four teams, the top two vote-getters and one judge's picks were announced Thursday night as advancing.

Belew was not one of his team's top two vote-getters, but celebrity judge Cee Lo Green picked him from the three remaining singers to move on.

"I'm going to pick on the grounds of most improved," Green said. "I've got to go with Cody."

In a Tweet posted after the show, Belew expressed confidence his fans would move him on in the next round.

"I hoped we'd pull it off with votes, but hey- that was just practice! Monday night we'll show that cody fans WILL NOT BE IGNORED!!! ThnkYou!"

Belew advanced through several taped rounds in which Green and his fellow judges — Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine — whittled their teams down with singers competing against one another to move on.
