FAYETTEVILLE The Arkansas women's cross country team won the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday.
The Razorbacks finished with an average time of 21 minutes, 12.2 seconds - 4.4 seconds ahead of second-place Texas. With the win, Arkansas qualified for the NCAA championships next weekend in Louisville, Ky.
Semehar Tesfaye and Grace Heymsfield finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 6,000-meter race at Agri Park in Fayetteville. Texas had the top two finishers in the event, led by Marielle Hall with a time of 20 minutes, 30.7 seconds.
Arkansas' men also qualified for the NCAA championships by finishing second Friday, an average of 9.2 seconds behind first-place Texas in the 10,000-meter race. Kemoy Campbell finished third in the race for the Razorbacks, while Solomon Haile finished fifth. Texas A&M's Henry Lelei won the event with a time of 29 minutes, 36.5 seconds.
The Razorbacks' men won the SEC cross country championship two weeks ago, while the women finished second.
