Crews work Tuesday off Financial Centre Parkway in west Little Rock. The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department warned motorists that construction on the new I-630/I-430 interchange would limit Financial Centre Parkway and Shackleford Road to a single lane in each direction at times this week.

— New restrictions are to begin Tuesday and last through Friday at the $124 million Big Rock Interchange project at Interstates 430 and 630 in west Little Rock.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said temporary lane closures will be in effect between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day on Financial Centre Parkway and Shackleford Road.

The work at times will allow only one lane to be open in each direction on those roads.

"Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and identify alternate routes during these four days," the agency said in a statement.

During the closures, crews will work to pave new sections of road that will tie into a future I-630 overpass of Shackleford Road.

The Highway Department said more lane and ramp closures in the area will be announced soon for travel next week.

“Our goal is to have no changes in the traffic pattern through the Big Rock Interchange between Thanksgiving and the end of the year, to minimize any disruption to holiday travel,” Highway Department Director Scott Bennett said in the release. “But to do that, we need to get some work wrapped up. Drivers have done a great job of avoiding the area and using alternative routes when we’ve asked them do so. We hope that continues as we complete this work and get ready for a busy travel season.”

The project is expected to be completed in 2014.
