Head-on collision with semi kills driver

— A driver was killed Tuesday after his car veered across opposing lanes of traffic and struck a semi truck head-on.

Arkansas State Police say it happened about 5:30 a.m. in Paragould as James Tabor Jr., 39, drove a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria north on U.S. 49.

According to a preliminary report, the car veered out of control north of Pruetts Chapel Road, went across all lanes of traffic and then struck an oncoming Volvo semi.

Tabor of Paragould died from unspecified injuries. The truck driver, identified as 30-year-old Midfield, Ala., resident Eric B. Docks, was taken to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. The report did not specify his condition.

It wasn't clear what caused Tabor to lose control of his car. The report says the weather was clear and road surface dry.

Tabor was the 467th person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
