— The Pulaski County sheriff's office announced the opening of a new jail wing at its Roosevelt Road facility in Little Rock on Wednesday afternoon.

The new wing can hold up to 240 inmates and will be designated for non-violent offenders. Officials said it will begin to be inhabited on Monday.

The mayors of Little Rock, North Little Rock, Maumelle, Sherwood and Jacksonville agreed to share the cost for 80 of the 240 beds, while funding for the remaining 160 beds is still to be determined.

The facility is equipped with full-time surveillance equipment, large holding pods and outdoor holding cells.
