Arkansas Supreme Court upholds conviction, life term

— The Arkansas Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction and life sentence given to a man after a killing in Jacksonville in 2010.

Alonzo Watson said a judge should have suppressed a statement given to police. Prosecutors argued that Watson had no valid argument because his statement was never introduced as evidence.

Justices unanimously agreed with prosecutors in Thursday’s ruling.

Watson was convicted in the Sept. 3, 2010, death of Daniel Harris, whose body was found behind an auction company in a warehouse district in Jacksonville. Police said Harris was beaten with a piece of concrete and a witness said she saw Watson with blood and scratches on his arm after he drank and played pool with Harris.

Watson told police he and Harris were confronted by two other men.
