Crews work Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, to repair a broken water main at Louisiana and Third streets in downtown Little Rock.

— A water-main break on Louisiana and Third streets has closed a school and left some customers in downtown Little Rock without water.

Central Arkansas Water said in a statement that the break was reported about 7:30 a.m. Thursday. An hour later, crews isolated the break and began repairs.

Terry Bice, the utility's director of distribution, said that two customers were being affected by the break and that he's confident the water should be back on in the area within the next four hours, though the street repair from work on the break will take considerably longer.

The section of Louisiana Street between Second and Third streets has been blocked off during the repair.

Little Rock's eStem Public Charter School, at 112 W. Third St., closed Thursday as a result of the break, according to its website.

The cause of the break is unknown at this time, Central Arkansas Water said.

Customers in the area could see discolored water caused by scouring manganese from the water-main lining. The discolored water could stain fabrics, so customers are advised not to wash clothes if they notice a different pigment in their water.

Any customers with questions may call the Central Arkansas Water Dispatch Center at (501) 377-1239.
