NORTH LITTLE ROCK Authorities say they arrested a man who was carrying a gun after a foot chase that was touched off when police stopped him for walking down the middle of the street.
The North Little Rock Police Department says Donovan S. Clary, 18, was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Thursday on charges including carrying a prohibited weapon, fleeing and refusal to submit.
According to an arrest report, an officer stopped Clary because he was walking in the middle of the 1700 block of West Long 17th Street, making it hard for the patrol vehicle to get around him. There are sidewalks in the area, the report said.
The officer wrote in the report that he moved to do a pat-down search of Clary when he took off running. Police say they chased him north through a yard and over two fences and then back south again across West Long 17th Street.
The report says Clary a short time later dropped a silver-and-black revolver and then fell to the ground after running another 60 feet. He was then arrested.
"When asked why he ran, Mr. Clary stated 'I'm a make you do your job,'" the report said. "'I'm gonna make you work for it.'"
The officer suffered a cut on a finger during the pursuit, the report said. Clary was booked into the Pulaski County jail and was also cited for being a pedestrian in the road.
