Tyler Scaife signs with Rutgers

Hall guard Tyler Scaife signed with Rutgers on Friday afternoon. She chose Rutgers over Ohio State.

— In the nearly two years since Hall High School's Bobby Portis committed to Arkansas he said he's never wavered in his pledge.

He made that known on Friday afternoon as his made his commitment to the Razorbacks official, inking during the early signing period and becoming the second of a two-man 2013 class for coach Mike Anderson.

Portis, a two-time all-state performer who has helped the Warriors to the past three Class 7A state boys' basketball titles, will partner with AAU teammate and fellow signee Moses Kingsley next year.

Though he said that Kansas and Baylor eagerly attempted to flip his commitment in the final days leading up to his signing, Portis knew he wanted to be a Hog and indicated the signing was more of a relief.

"I don't have to worry about anymore calls. No more texts," Portis said. "I can just focus on the season."

Portis was one of three players to sign with a Division I college in Friday's ceremony. Girls' basketball player Tyler Scaife pledged to Rutgers while her teammate Katelyn Weber signed with Missouri State.

Scaife is rated as a consensus Top 20 player in the nation and helped the Lady Warriors to a state title last season.

Another commitment came today at Little Rock Central, when Lady Tiger Jamie Ruffins signed with Arkansas State.

Ruffins is the lone senior for Central this season, and the 5-7 guard was rated by ESPN Hoop Gurlz as the no. 5 player in the state, according to a release from the Little Rock School District.

Read more about these commitments in tomorrow's Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
