Arkansas judge rules adult charge for teen in slaying

— A circuit judge in Jonesboro ruled that a 16-year-old boy is to be tried as an adult, though the boy’s lawyers are considering an appeal.

Craighead County Circuit Judge Cindy Thyer on Friday turned away a request by the suspect’s lawyers to return the teenager to juvenile court.

The youth is charged in the July 24 shooting death of 30-year-old Kenny O. Brown of Jonesboro, who was fatally shot during robbery of a dice game.

The Jonesboro Sun reported that Thyer said evidence from the youth’s mobile phone indicated he’d planned the robbery and that she weighed that against him.

Trial is set for March 11.
