First responders found an unidentified man lying in the parking lot of a beauty salon, at 2801 S. Arch St., with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

Little Rock police spokesman Sgt. Cassandra Davis said the man was taken to a nearby hospital shortly after emergency crews tended to him.

The victim was still alive early Sunday night but his condition was unknown, Davis said.

Neighbors and bystanders said they heard three gunshots before they found the man on the ground next to his girlfriend.

Davis confirmed neighbors’ accounts that the man’s girlfriend claimed the victim shot himself.

But minutes after the shooting, an unidentified suspect called police from 1321 College St. and wanted to confess to the shooting, police said.

Police were still investigating the names of those involved, the circumstances leading to the shooting and whether the shooting was accidental, Davis said.

Roughly an hour after the shooting, family and friends of the victim crossed the crime-scene tape and started a disturbance with investigators.

One of the three who crossed the tape started shouting at officers and demanding to know what happened. He exchanged shoves with officers trying to keep him from altering the crime scene, police said.

James Young, 33, of 2204 Pulaski St., was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and refusal to submit for yelling and “acting uncontrollable” toward officers, police said.
