— Windstream Corp. is opening a 65,000-square-foot data center in the Washington, D.C., area to help meet growing demand for cloud and managed data services.

The Little Rock-based phone and internet services company said Monday that the center in McLean, Va., is one of a series of data hubs around the country. The company opened a similar center in Little Rock earlier this year.

Windstream says part of its strategy is to offer businesses the ability to quickly add computing capacity without having to make capital investments.

Windstream had annual revenue of $6 billion last year and, in addition to nationwide network communications, the company offers broadband, phone and digital TV services.
