One teen dead, four hurt in Bryant wreck

— Authorities are investigating the cause of a single-vehicle accident in Bryant early Wednesday morning that killed one teen and injured four others.

Sgt. Todd Crowson said the five teenagers, who he described as being about 16 or 17, were in a vehicle that veered off North Lake Road near Springhill Road and went into the woods. It happened about 1 a.m.

All five of the teens were ejected, Crowson said, adding two of them were airlifted from the scene. One of those taken by helicopter, a 17-year-old female passenger, later died at Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Speaking Wednesday afternoon, Crowson said authorities believe the other four will survive. He didn't have information on the extents of their injuries.

"Obviously there are going to be injuries," he said. "But nothing life-threatening. Now things can change in a moment's notice, but that's the latest we've been told."

Authorities were not yet releasing the names of any of the teens Wednesday afternoon.

Arkansas State Police will reconstruct the accident to figure out what may have caused it, Crowson said. He said the vehicle suffered "tons of damage."
