Teen driver killed in head-on collision

— An 18-year-old driver from Paragould died Tuesday when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming vehicle head-on.

Arkansas State Police say it happened shortly before 6 p.m. on Arkansas 135 in Greene County.

According to a preliminary report, Jordan K. Pankey was driving a 2004 Ford north on the highway when the vehicle crossed the centerline near Oak Grove Road and hit a southbound 2008 Dodge.

Pankey was taken to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, where he died.

The Dodge driver, identified as 44-year-old Paragould resident Joey E. Grooms, suffered unspecified injuries. His condition wasn't immediately known.

The report didn't specify what may have caused the Ford to cross the line. It says the weather was clear and the road dry.

Pankey was the 481st person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
