MARK REEVES CATE, 61, of Little Rock, Ark., went to be withthe Lord on Nov. 21, 2012. He was born May 4, 1951, in Lincoln, Ark., to the late Dr. N. Lee Cate and Sallye Bobbitt Cate.

He was a graduate of Hendrix College and received his Masters in Business at the University of Arkansas. He was a renown banker and well known in the financial community. He served on various civic boards, was a member and treasurer at Grace Lutheran Church. He was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was a devout Christian. He was the son of a Methodist minister. His passion was golf and his children. He was a friendly people person, was kind to all and a southern gentlemen, was loved by a great number of friends in Osceola, Dumas, Little Rock and throughout Arkansas. He loved history, discussing politics, sports and the Razorbacks.

Mark was invested with the ability to profoundly impact the lives he came across. Although his health began to fade in his later years, it was masked ever so well by his joyful demeanor. His love was boundless; boundless as the cherished memories held of him by his loving family and friends.

He is survived by daughter, C.C. Cate of Little Rock; son, Samuel Cate and wife, Yamaira, of Little Rock; brother, Benton Cate and wife, Annelle, of Fayetteville; former wife and best friend, Rebecca Catlett Cate, of Little Rock; niece, Allyson Cate McNair; nephews Brandon, Chad and Tyler Cate and their families.

A celebration of Mark's life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church, 5124 Hillcrest Street, Little Rock, Ark., with Reverend James C.

CAROL LYNN HENSON, 49, of Mabelvale, born Nov. 7, 1963, in California to parents Fred and Mamie Denton, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Carol is survived by her husband, Robert Henson; three sons, Josh Holland, Royan Holland and Ethan Holland; and one daughter, Taylor Henson. Carol is also survived by her granddaughter, Gracie Bailey; and her four dogs, Scarlett, Bean, Keeto and Oliver.

JAMES DONALD HOLLEY, 72, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at his home in Little Rock. He was born on Feb. 24, 1940, in Vernon, Ala., the son of William Albert and Wilma Holley. A life-long learner, Dr. Holley received a B.A. in Education from Louisiana Tech, an M.A. in Sociology from Louisiana State University, an M.A. in Statistics from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D in History from Louisiana State University.

In 1967, he and his wife, Bankie, moved to Monticello when Dr.Holley accepted a position in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department at what was then known as Arkansas A&M College. In addition to teaching several generations of students at the University for forty years, Dr. Holley chaired the department for a number of years. He had done extensive scholarly research and was an expert on agricultural history and Arkansas state history. Because of his achievements in researching, documenting, teaching and writing on the history of the state of Arkansas, Dr. Holley received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Arkansas Historical Association in 2007.

Dr. Holley was a noted author, having published three books, multiple articles and having served as the editor of the Drew County Historical Journal for several years. His first book, Uncle Sam's Farmers: The New Deal Communities in the Lower Mississippi Valley, won the Agricultural History Society Book Award in 1975. His second book, The Second Great Emancipation: The Mechanical Cotton Picker, Black Migration, and How They Shaped the Modern South, details the role of mechanization in changing the face of agriculture in the South. His final book, Celebrating a Century of Opportunity, was commissioned by UAM on its one-hundredth anniversary.

Dr. Holley and Bankie recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife, Bankie, of Little Rock; his son, Stephen, and his wife, Kelly, of Centennial, Colo.; his daughter, Helen, and her husband, Seth, of Little Rock; his brother, Mark, and his wife, Mary, of Jasper, Ala.; and three grandchildren: Bailey Holley of Little Rock, and Nathaniel and Benjamin Holley of Centennial, Colo.

Visitation with family will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday with a service at 10 a.m. on Saturday to be officiated by Brent Higdem ‚ both at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello. INGEBORG M. JUNIUS (nee Gietler) of Little Rock, formerly of Chicago, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 at home.

She was born in Ulzen, Germany to Alma (Krueger) and Emil Gietler.

She was preceded in death byher husband, Arthur Lawrence Junius; daughter, Nancy Heinkel; grandchildren, Patricia Johnson-Mcduffie and Thomas Arthur Johnson.

She is survived by two daughters and a son, Maureen (Tom) Johnson of Little Rock, Susan (Jim) Tews of Okeechobee, Fla., and Lawrence A Junius of Elmhurst, Ill. Also, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

RITA MAE HOGUE TRAYLOR, age 84, died peacefully on Nov.20, 2012 in North Little Rock after a short illness and surrounded by her husband of 62 years Robert Marion (Bob) Traylor Jr., and their seven children. AVILLA - Debbie Griffith Crook, 52, of Avilla, Ark., went to be with the Lord on Nov. 20, 2012.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Juanita Presson; one brother, James; and her first husband, Ralph Griffith.

She is survived by her husband, Rick Crook; three sons, Ricky (Amber) Griffith, Randy Griffith and Cody Crook of Alexander; three stepsons, Rick (Cristy) Crook, Ryan and Randy Crook; and her beautiful granddaughter, Braylee Griffith; two brothers, Steve (Rebecca) Presson of Clarksville and Shawn Presson of Little Rock; two nephews, Kyle and Ryan Presson.

Debbie was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a people person and was loved by many.

BENTON - Drew Nicole Melton, 17, of Benton, passed from this life on Nov. 21, 2012. She was bornMarch 22, 1995, in Hot Springs, Ark., to Fred “Ted” Melton and Susan Melton Jacobs. Drew was a senior at Benton High School and worked at Arkansas Bone and Joint in Bryant. She lovedplaying all sports, including golf, softball, (shortstop extraordinaire), volley ball, basketball and her dream, to be on a swim team.Her plans were to attend University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in the fall.

She is survived by her mother, Susan Melton Jacobs and husband Todd of Benton; father, Fred “Ted” Melton of Benton; sisters, Katie Nichols of Benton, Samantha Jo Melton of Benton, Blakely Jacobs of Conway; grandparents, Fred and Jean Melton, Joe Don and Mary Davis of Benton; aunt, Kelly Stewart and husband, Scott, of Benton; and uncles, Greg Davis and Jerry Mack Davis, all of Benton.

He was the 6th child and 3rd son born to Milton and Delbra King. Jeremy graduated from Conway HighSchool in 2007. He attended the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff and the University of Central Arkansas. Jeremy was a Sergeant in the National Guard Golf Company Unit in Russellville, Ark. He was employed by Preferred Medical Supply Company.

He had one brother, Coy, who preceded him in death. DEANN - Mr. James Hoit Burke 87, of DeAnn, Ark., passed awaySunday, Nov. 18, 2012 in DeAnn, Ark.

James Hoit was born Sept. 23, 1925, to Jessie Calvin and Annie Lowe Burke in DeAnn, Ark. He served in the US Army, where he was awarded aPurple Heart, three Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked as a farmer and his family was named Outstanding Young Farmer of Hempstead County and was known as the “Watermelon Man” during the annual Watermelon Festival in Hope, Ark. He was a member of DeAnn United Methodist Church.

Mr. Burke was preceded in death by his sister, Arlene Burke Willis, and his great-granddaughter, Savannah Grace Lee.

Mr. Burke is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sue Burke of DeAnn, Ark.; one son, James D. Burke and wife, Tina of Hope, Ark.; two daughters, Gail Burke Herron of Little Rock, Ark., and Robyn Burke Cornelius of Hope, Ark.; two brothers, Dr. Ralph Burke of Dallas, Texas, and Johnny C Burke of Hot Springs, Ark.; three sisters, Belva June Glanton of Hope, Ark., Sue Roe of Santa Ana, Calif., and Ann Woodward of Magnolia, Ark.; six grandchildren, Chad Burke, Josh Burke, Whitney Herron, Allyson Burke Lee, Brooke Cornelius and Brant Cornelius; two great-grandchildren, Emily Burke and Brad Burke.

DEWITT - Albert Bernard Bowlin, age 94, of DeWitt died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012. He was born Feb. 27, 1918 in Mounds, La., to Benjamin and Ella Case Bowlin. He was a retired farm equipment salesman, served in the Army Air Corp. during World War II and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include son, Scott Bowlin and wife Debby of DeWitt; grandsons, Clay Bowlin (Aimee) of Shreveport, La.; Kyle Bowlin (Jackie) of Media, Pa., and six greatgrandchildren. He was the last of 13 siblings.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23 at Essex Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Keithville Baptist Church Cemetery in Stowell, La.

LAKE VILLAGE - Ardelia Ann Wilson, age 83, of Lake Village, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock. She was born April 3, 1929, in Tallulah, La., to the late Morris Wilson and Lillie Tyler Wilson. She was a Teacher's Aide at Lakeside Elementary in Lake Village and a member of St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church in Jennie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her two sons, Curtis (Ann) Wilson of Little Rock, and Alan (Charletta) Wilson of Hawaii; three daughters, Brenda (Bonnie) Sanders of Little Rock, Sharon (Charles) Lambert of Dallas, Texas, and Judy Wilson of Little Rock; five sisters, Margaret, Martha, Edna, Emma and Lois; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday Nov. 23, 2012, at Bishop Funeral Home. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at St. John Baptist Church in Jennie. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Home of Lake Village.

MALVERN - Herman Ray, age 94, of Malvern passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at MercyHospital in Hot Springs. Herman was born Feb. 7, 1918, in Ozan Township, the son of Henry Zan and Lona Elizabeth Finigan Ray. He retired from the City of Malvern as a heavy equipment operator after working at the Reynolds Metal Company in Gum Springs and Jones Mill. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by wife, Evelyn Louise "Evie" Ray; his son, Billy Ray; grandson, Mark Ray; granddaughter, Leigh Ann Ray; great-great grandson, Jason Ray.

Survivors: son, Bobby Ray (Charlotte) of Little Rock; stepson, Jerry Lee Hayes of Tonopah, Ariz.; mother of his children, Thelma Lucille Smedley; grandchildren, Christopher Ray (Renee) of Maumelle, Amber Shawn Ray of Wichita, Kan., Phillip Lloyd Ray of Arkadelphia; great-grandchildren, David Lee Ray (Abbey), Justin Ray (Jennie), Amanda Ray, Ashley Ray, TeAndre and Terrell; great-great granddaughter, Piper Ray; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held Friday, Nov. 23rd at 2 p.m. at Rockport Cemetery with his great-grandson, David Lee Ray officiating. ROMANCE - Kimberly Ann Langley, 27, of Romance passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012. She was born Dec. 20, 1984, to her parents, Ricky Langley and Lawanda Durham, husband Charles.

She worked for Byrd Haven Nursing Home in Searcy.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her children: one son, Joseph "JoJo" Porter; one daughter, Michelle Porter; one brother, Logan Langley; one step-brother, Terry Durham; one sister, Ashley Hunkapiller, husband Glenn; one step-sister,Kimberly Fitzpatrick; grandfather, Allen Bargar, wife Carol; grandmother, Theresa Watson; one niece, Bailey Hunkapiller and three nephews, Glenn Allen Hunkapiller, Dylan Hunkapiller and Ethan Hunkapiller. A special aunt, Brenda Weidner, and a host of family and friends. Kimberly will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Grady and Annie Mae Langley and greatgrandma, Marceline Langston.

SEARCY - Jimmie Wayne Hicks, 68, of Judsonia died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Ark. He was born June 18, 1944, near Searcy. He is the second son of the late Martin Alexander Hicks and Eva Leavern Whisnant Hicks.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David Arthur Hicks and Martin Willis Hicks.

He is survived by five daughters, Cara Carrillo, Lynne Perdue, April Currier, Shauna Haynes and Fallon Hopper; one brother, Billy Don Hicks; and one sister, Debra Jean Collison; and eight grandchildren.

Wayne was a Christian and a retired truck driver. He served his country during the Cold War as a U.S. Army combat engineer and air defense artilleryman. Before his health failed him, he was known in Pangburn as The Fisherman.

Visitation will be held noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 at Searcy McEuen Funeral Home.

COPPELL, Texas - Bennett Alton Van Patten, 84, formerly of Fort Myers, Fla., passed from this life on Nov. 12, 2012. He was born Dec. 3, 1927, in Pangburn, Ark., to the late Bennett Austin and Edith Dora Brown Van Patten. Mr. Van Patten was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, a US Army veteran having served during the Korean War, and an avid reader. His sister, Louise Van Patten Gipson, precedes him in death.

Survivors include one son, Bennett Van Patten Jr. and wife, Susan, of Little Rock, Ark.; three daughters, Gyla Wise and husband, Stan, of Fort Myers, Fla.; Tamara Heineman and husband, George, of Coppell, Texas; Brenda Flora and husband, Jerry, of Heber Springs, Ark.; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Van Patten Hopper, of Mountain Home, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.
