Holiday spirit switches on across region

When City Hall in Batesville will be lit up for the season on Dec. 3. When the switch is flipped, lights will also go on up and down Main Street and at Riverside Park.

The height of the tree at the courthouse in Mountain View. The tree, found in a ravine near the White River, will be covered in 3,000 lights and around 200 ornaments. The tree-lighting ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday and include a visit from Santa, hot chocolate, cider and a Christmas program by local kids.

The number of award categories for floats in Cabot’s annual Christmas parade. Under the theme “It’s a Dr. Seuss Christmas!” participants will compete for trophies in school/civic, church, business, animal/equestrian or general/personal categories. The parade will kick off at 3 p.m. Dec. 9 at Panther Trail and travel north along South Pine Street.

The number of lights used to decorate the outdoor quad area at Harding University in Searcy. The school’s yearly decorations draw visitors from across the state. The lights will be turned on for the first time at around 6 p.m. Monday.

The number of illuminated Christmas trees on the lawn of the Heber Springs courthouse. The trees — five blue, five green and five pink — will be lit during the annual holiday parade, which will start at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Harps Grocery Store on Main Street.

The number of volunteers in charge of decorating the Cabot City Hall and its courtyard for the holiday season. A lighting ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 7 in the courtyard, with free food and drink, hayrides, photos with Santa and prizes.

The day in November that the Lyon College Christmas tree will be lit, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday’s ceremony will include a Scripture reading, with a chili and soup supper to follow at the Mabee-Simpson Library on campus.
