Early morning shooting in Little Rock investigated

— Authorities in Little Rock are investigating after a man was shot during a robbery attempt early Monday morning.

Little Rock Police Department Sgt. Cassandra Davis said it happened about 6 a.m. as 43-year-old Luis Morales was leaving his residence at 9709 W. Base Line Road.

According to a report, the assailant approached Morales' car, broke the glass out with a rifle and demanded his wallet.

Davis said Morales was handing the robber the wallet when the man opened fire, striking Morales once in the arm. Police recovered five apparent SKS shell cases at the scene.

Morales' injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. He was transported to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock.

The gunman is described as a black man about 18 years old, 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. He was wearing a brown sweater and dark pants.

The man reportedly fled toward nearby Stone Crest Apartments.
