EDWARD ALDEN BOWEN, Jr. of Little Rock, passed away Nov. 21, 2012. He was born at Mammoth Spring, Ark., on Feb. 1, 1918, to E. A. Bowen and Lida Bowen. The family moved to Little Rock shortly after his birth, where his father began his teaching career at the newly opened West Side Junior High School.

Alden attended Little Rock Public Schools and Little Rock Junior College and then received a degree from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as both Deacon, Elder and as Chairman of the Deacons on two different occasions.

He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a long-time employee of Beach Abstract & Guaranty Company, where he began as a trainee in 1945. He later served as Secretary, Vice-President, President and Chairman of the Board of the Company. Among his civic activities, Alden served as President of the Oak Forest Lions Club and Arkansas Enterprises for the Blind (now World Enterprises for the Blind). He also served on the Little Rock Planning Commission, the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock and the Little Rock Port Authority.

He was past president of the Arkansas Land Title Associations and served on the Board of Governors of the American Land Title Association.

He was predeceased by his mother, father, a younger brother, Vernon P. Bowen, and his wife, Marjorie Jackson Bowen. He is survived by several cousins.

WAITE HOYT BROWNING, 91, of North Little Rock, went to be with his Lord Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, in North Little Rock. He was born Sunday, Oct. 16, 1921 in Bono, Ark., to the late Mack Browning and Loya Smith Browning.

He loved singing and playing music. He was a member of First Christian Church in North Little Rock.

He was a loving brother and uncle. Mr. Browning was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John R. Browning; and a nephew, Robert A. Mayer.

He leaves to cherish his memory a sister, Joy Mayer of North Little Rock; a niece, Kellie Browning of Little Rock; and great-nieces Jennifer McCall of Hillsborough, N.J., Brittany Stacyof Conway, Ashlie and Kassadie Knowles, both of Little Rock.

DEREK DALE GARRISON, 52, of Little Rock passed away Friday,Nov. 23, 2012. He was born on Dec. 11, 1959, in Richmond, Calif., to Dale and Tonia (Reed) Garrison. He was currently employed by Allied Plumbing Supply of Little Rock, and was aReserve Deputy Sheriff on their Dive Team for over 20 years and also worked 20 years for the Kroger Stores.

He is survived by his wife, Melba Garrison of Little Rock; daughter, Jessie Lee Garrison of Little Rock; parents, Dale and Tonia Garrison of Little Rock; brothers, Marty (Lisa) Garrison of Bryant, Greg (Stephanie) Garrison of Little Rock; nephews, Drew Garrison, Cory Garrison and Eli Garrison, all of Little Rock; niece, Hannah Garrison of Bryant; step-daughter, Scarlett McElyea of Sherwood and stepson, Chris York of Cabot. He was also Grandpa Derek to a host of grandchildren.

JIM L. MONTGOMERY, 81, of Little Rock departed this life onThursday, Nov. 22, 2012 peacefully at home. Jim was born March 10, 1931, in Canton, Miss., to James Lester Montgomery and Estelle “Polly” Cauthen Montgomery. Jim graduatedfrom Canton High School and Mississippi State University. He spent his entire career with Aetna Insurance Company as employee benefits manager in Little Rock and Oklahoma City. Following retirement, he served five years, along with his wife Mary Frances, as camp director for Camp Mitchell located on beautiful Petit Jean Mountain. He is pre-deceased by his parents; step-mother, Vivian Quinn West Montgomery Edwards; step-brother, Robert H. West, and his beloved wife, Mary Frances “Miff” Williams Montgomery. He is survived by his brother, C. Robert Montgomery; step-sister Anne Seay; his children, Polly Montgomery Deems (Don) of Little Rock, Cyndy Montgomery Tilden (Don) of Dallas, James “Jim” Montgomery (Tonya) of Denver; his grandchildren, Taylor and Alex Deems, and Parker, Westin, Madison, and Kelsey Montgomery, and 11 nieces and nephews. Caroline Stevenson, his loving and devoted companion, also survives him.

Jim was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church andserved in many leadership roles such as Senior Warden, Vestry Member, Search Committee Member, and was the proud Scout Master for Troop 7. He cared deeply about the scouting program and spent over 50 years assisting scouts with their goal of achieving their Eagle rank. He was an active member of Troop 045 for senior scouts and was very humbled to have the Troop 7 Scout Hut named for him. He also enjoyed the outdoors and spent many weeks on the Buffalo River and Big Piney Creek with the “Jasper in June” group. Hunting birds of any kind was a way to get away with his “hunting buddies.” He brought home duck, turkey, quail, pheasant, dove and some great stories to tell, as well. Jim enjoyed his many road trips with family and friends and the regular dinners out with the “birthday group.”

The family would like to thank his caregivers Ann McElroy, Susie Parker, Shelby Wilkerson, Marilyn Anderson, and Erma Esau, all of whom treated him with respect and compassion these last several years of his life. The family offers a special thanks to his personal physician and dear friend, Dr. Harold Hedges. And, finally, the family is grateful to Arkansas Hospice for making his last days comfortable and giving him his wish to pass at home.

A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1000 N. Mississippi Ave., Little Rock, Ark., on Tuesday, Nov., 27 at 11 a.m. Jim will be laid to rest in the columbarium located in the courtyard of the church. A reception will follow the service in the church’s parish hall.

MICKEY ROBERTS died Saturday morning surrounded by herloving family. Mickey was born May 18, 1925, the daughter of Charles Robert and Willie Essie (Armstrong) Knowles.

She was a graduate of Central High School in 1944,homemaker and a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church. Mickey was the quintessential Southern belle. Born the baby of a large adoring family, little changed when she met and married Dave. As her daughters were born, she became the perfect mother, never missing a piano lesson or school function, all the while being an active community volunteer. She was a proud wife and frequently a gracious “first lady” to the many organizations her husband led. When Dave entered politics she was the perfect politician’s wife. She campaigned energetically for her husband and later for both daughters as they sought public office.

The biggest joys of her life were her three grandchildren. She was a doting and adoring grandmother.

Having raised only girls, she quickly became a vocal supporter at the Little League and soccer games for her two grandsons. With her granddaughter she passed along a love of clothes and a passion for shoes. When asked to describe herself, she frequently said, “I married an over achiever; got careless andraised two more, and I am chief cheerleader for all of them.”

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, David Earl Roberts of North Little Rock; two daughters, Debra K Roberts (Michael Abele) and Patti Roberts Julian (Jim), all of North Little Rock; grandchildren, Nicholas Lincoln Rogers, Clayton Armstrong Rogers and Kathryn Elizabeth Julian. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Boyd, Cecil and Carter Knowles; sisters, Ruby Thomasson and Bernice Sosebee.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at 12 noon at Lakewood United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rest Hills Memorial Park. BENTON - Pauline Jones Daugherty, of Benton, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton, Ark., after suffering a stroke on Friday. She was 95 years old. Pauline was born on Jan. 23, 1917, in Sayre, Ark., located inOuachita County. She was the daughter of the late Jewell Hudson Jones and Jewel Ann Pearce Jones. The family moved to Bauxite, Arkansas, when Pauline was about four years old.

Pauline met her future husband, Warren Kelley "Doc" Daugherty at a church revival in Bauxite. They were married July 30, 1933. Doc was the love of her life, and when he died on Dec. 2, 1995, they had been married 62 years.

Pauline was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Winfred Jones and James Pearce Jones; two sisters, Cornelia Jones Curt and Aurelia Jones Caple; a grandson, Warren Kelley "Butch" Daugherty; and a daughter-in-law, Martha Willis Daugherty. She is survived by three sons: Warren Kelley "Doc" Daugherty of Pine Bluff, Phillip Wayne Daugherty (Sharon) of Benton; and Richard Ronald Daugherty (Jan) also of Benton; seven grandchildren: Tamara Daugherty Gates of Pine Bluff, Charles Daugherty (Donna) of Jasper, Angelia Daugherty Gay (Russ) of Monticello, Jennifer Daugherty Emery (Rob) of Batesville, Julie Daugherty Miller (John) of Benton, Heather Daugherty Harper (Phillip) of Winchester, Tenn., Richard Daugherty (Mindy) of Germany; 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; three nephews and six nieces.

Pauline always put her husband and children first in her life. She was a person that enjoyed people and was loved by all ages. She liked traveling, playing cards, reading, and talking on the phone.

She attended the First United Methodist Church in Benton and was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be held at Roller-Ballard funeral Home in Benton (315-4047) Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, 11 a.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park, with Reverend Clyde Chenault officiating.

BENTON - Marie Wolf Simons, age 91, of Benton passed away on Nov. 24, 2012, after a short illness. Marie was born Jan. 13, 1921, in Malvern. Mrs. Simons spent all of her adult life in Saline County and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church for over 60 years. Marie was an accomplished Seamstress and she worked several years performing alterations at The Fashion Store in Benton and also sewed for family and friends. She was a loving Mother and grandmother, great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Lindsey Schwanner; husbands, Woodrow Wolf and Gerald Simons.

Survivors, daughter, Bonnie Wolf, Benton; son and daughterin-law, Larry Wolf and his wife Cherry Edmonson Wolf, Benton; Granddaughters, Melissa Lewis, Dallas, Texas; Rebecca Santamaria and husband Pablo, Dallas, Texas; Laura Pritchard and husband John, Benton; greatgranddaughter, Paloma and great-grandson, Ryder, both of Benton.

CARLISLE - Kathy Maria Hubbard 47, of Carlisle, left this walk of life and entered into Heaven on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012.

Kathy was a army veteran and served four years in Germany and four years in the active reserves.

She was a retired Administrative Assistant at the Arkansas School for the Deaf.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Baradley Carroll Hubbard of Carlisle and one daughter, Kara Sue Hubbard of Carlisle;her mother, Kathleen Gonsowki and two brothers, Walter and Harry of Norwich, Conn. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Beautry.

HARRISON - Dr. Robert H.Langston, age 81, died Nov. 23, 2012, while enjoying life with friends heading to a Razorback football game.

Dr. Bob was a medical student in the 50's in Little Rock and had his own practicein Harrison from 1961 to 1996 when he retired.

He was active in the community along with his wife Frances of 59 years. Volunteering for the Goblins and North Arkansas Pioneersto help with sidelines for athletes, Medical Director and co-founder of the Medical Mission Clinic, founding board president for the North Arkansas Counseling Foundation. Anyone who spent more than a few minutes with him knew he was an avid Razorback Fan, a Razorback Foundation contributor since 1970.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at the First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a long time member with his wife. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at the church.

She married Fred Gresham, on Oct. 4, 1939, in Smackover, Ark. and worked as an accountant. Doris lived in Mountain Home, since 2005, moving from Sherwood, Ark. She was a member of Parkhill Christian Church in North Little Rock.

Doris is survived by her son, Rip (Carol) Gresham of Mountain Home; daughter, Linda Kay Cleghorn of Paron; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.

ROSEVILLE, Calif. - "Wolf" Sydow passed away peacefully onMonday, Nov. 19, 2012, at the age of 77, at his home in Eskaton Village, Roseville, surrounded by his family. Wolf was born in Landsberg, Germany, orphaned during World War II, and cameto the U.S. as a young man; he was soon drafted and served in the U.S. Army in the early 1960s. He settled down in Little Rock, Ark., where he raised his family and retired from Riverside Motors in 1997. From 2010 to 2011, Wolf lived at Chenal Parkway in Little Rock before moving to Eskaton Village in Roseville, Calif., in 2011.

Wolf is survived by daughter, Michelle Sydow; daughter, Antje, and husband, Herman Nordman; and grandsons, Jesse and Jeremy Nordman; and son, Marc, and wife, Dainey Sydow; and granddaughters, Rachel and Shannon Sydow.

A viewing was held at Lambert's Funeral home in Roseville, Calif., on Wednesday, Nov. 21,2012. Funeral Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, 2 p.m., J.A. Funk Funeral Home, Malvern, Ark. Interment, Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation 1-2 p.m. Tuesday.

NAPLES, Fla. - Thomas Carroll Coleman Sr. was born July 21, 1918, in Lonoke County, Ark., the son of Julius Cross Coleman and wife, Eva Carroll Coleman, and died Nov. 23, 2012, in Naples, Fla. He was resident of Naples, Fla., for the past 12 years, where he was active in the North Naples United Methodist Church. Mr. Coleman served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a salesman in Memphis andlater in the Arkansas River Valley from 1947 until 1964 for William R Moore Dry Goods Co. and he lived in North Little Rock, Ark. He was promoted to sales manager and executive vice president and moved to Memphis. He was also president of Harris, Davis & Reeves in Nashville, Tenn., and Fitts & Co in Kansas City, Mo. He served as president of the National Association of Textile and Apparel Wholesalers in 1977. He later served as president of national stores in Nashville, Tenn., from 1981 until 1986.

Mr. Coleman loved reading, bridge, golf, travel and trout fishing with family. He was active in churches throughout his life as well as charitable organizations, including Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. He was chairman of the board for First Methodist Church of North Little Rock in the early 1960s.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife of 57 years, Ruth Estelle Coleman; stepmother, Mary Ellis Coleman; and brother, JC Coleman of Memphis, Tenn.

Mr. Coleman is survived by his second wife, Joan F. Coleman of Naples, Fla.; son, Thomas Carroll Coleman Jr., and wife Susan of Mountain Home, Ark.; daughter, Kathleen C. Hurdle, and husband William F. Hurdle of Mansfield, OH; son, James H. Coleman, of Oak Ridge, Tenn. He had four grandchildren: Stephen C. Coleman of Nashville, Tenn., Jason T. Coleman and wife Angela Dyer of Franklin, Tenn., David F. Coleman and wife Stephanie of Nashville, Tenn., and Catherine H. Madden and husband David of Mansfield, Ohio. He had two great-grandchildren, Ainsley C. Coleman and Wyatt P. Coleman of Franklin, Tenn.

Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral following at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Cabot, Ark.
