BEE BRANCH Arkansas State Police say a 24-year-old Clinton man apparently shot himself after a pursuit from a state trooper.
State police say a trooper tried to pull over Devin Pearson on Thursday afternoon on U.S. 65 near Bee Branch. State police say Pearson refused to exit his truck and drove off as the trooper tried to open the vehicle’s door.
Authorities say Van Buren County deputies joined the pursuit and that Pearson reportedly fired a handgun at officers.
Witnesses told state police that Pearson shot himself once officers pulled up alongside the truck.
He was pronounced dead at Ozark Medical Center in Clinton. Special agents with state police are investigating the incident and will forward findings to prosecutors, who will determine whether any charges should be filed.
