Fair starts slow but heats up

— It didn’t matter that Little Rock Fair’s offense took a while to get started, considering Pulaski Robinson’s offense never really got going.

Senior forward Allante Plant scored 14 points and Fair never trailed in a 49-17 victory over host Robinson on Tuesday night.

Fair led 8-0 at the end of a slow-paced and unproductive first quarter. Plant scored all of the War Eagles’ points by cutting to the basket, while Robinson struggled to get players open. Robinson was held scoreless until sophomore guard Phillip Brown scored at 4:48 in the second quarter to make it 16-2.

“Turnovers are killing us,” Robinson Coach Tony Adams said. “We’re getting opportunities and not taking advantage.”

Fair (2-2) continued to pull away and ended the first half leading 30-7 after senior guard Alex Bernard scored at the buzzer under little pressure.

“We still didn’t play as well as I expected,” Fair Coach Charlie Johnson said. “We’ve got to go back to fundamentals.”

Fair led 43-9 at the end of the third quarter after more poor passes and turnovers by Robinson. The clock was not stopped in the fourth quarter.

“We’re still trying to find combinations [of players] that will work together,” Adams said. “It’s a mental thing. What can we do, and what will we allow ourselves to do?”

Bernard finished with 12 points. Davion Williams came off the bench to lead Robinson (1-5) with six points. Robinson finished 7 of 16 from the floor, while Fair went 21 of 34 and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line.
