ELNORA HERLACHER, age 89, of Jacksonville passed awayTuesday, November 27, 2012 in Little Rock. She was born November 25, 1923 in Pima, Arizona to Henry and Velva Lamb Long. Mrs. Herlacher was employed nine years withColor Print in Little Rock. She retired in 1982. She was a member of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints Church in Lonoke.

Mrs. Herlacher was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1987; a son, James Mathews; brother, Chelsey Long and a sister, Ruth Long. She is survived by three daughters, Linda Miller of Gilbert, Arizona, Anita Plant of Lonoke, and Jeanie Kuczynski of Jacksonville; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel Faye Kieffer of Pima, Arizona.

JOSEPH BURNAM HURLEY, 88, entered the life eternal Tuesday evening, November 27 from John L. McClellan Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock. A lifelong Arkansan proud of his Razorbacks, Joe was born in Camden, Ark. toIone Self and Curtis Brown Hurley. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lt. Curtis B. Hurley Jr., and beloved daughter Alice Gans Hurley Averill.

Joe graduated from Morrilton High School where he played all-star football for the Morrilton Devil Dogs, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and attended the University Of Missouri School Of Journalism where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Following his university studies he was active in the Arkansas Newspaper Publishing and Printing industry selling yearbooks for his uncle, Wallace Hurley at Hurley Co. in Camden and editor with his father of the Morrilton Democrat Newspaper. Then from 1957 to 1990, he was the owner of Hurley Printing and Stationery Company in El Dorado, Ark.

A constant conversationalist who enjoyed meeting new people and telling stories, Joe continued working after selling his company for another 15 years at Wal-Mart Stores in El Dorado, Goodlettsville, Tenn., and finally Fayetteville, Ark. where he and his wife Doris built their dream home on a hill overlooking the city.

Joe was active in community and professional organizations as a longtime Rotarian with many years of perfect attendance, member and District President of the National Office Products Association, El Dorado Chamber of Commerce, South Arkansas Economic Development Commission as well as member and president of United Way of Union County, El Dorado. In its heyday Hurley Printing Company printed magazines and flyers for national distribution through MurphyOil Corporation gas stations.

A dedicated Christian and devoted churchman, Joe was a lifelong Presbyterian. He was active in Presbyterian churches week in and week out in Morrilton, Camden, El Dorado, and Fayetteville, serving as deacon, elder, president of Men of the Church, and president of the Men’s Association for Presbytery of the Pines.

He was particularly proud of his father of whom he often spoke as “the finest Christian man I have ever known.” He was particularly pleased that his father was honored posthumously by an early newspaper employee, Ed McLaughlin, who endowed the Curtis B. Hurley Chair of International Journalism at the University of Missouri located at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Joe is survived by his wife of 33 years, Doris, sister Dorothy Street Hurley, and son Edwin Gray Hurley (Gayle). He is also survived by his bonus children, Branch Brunson, Geoff Brunson, Marc Brunson (Laura), Amy Brooks, and Leah Ford (Jon); grandchildren, Peter, Stuart, and Catherine Hurley, and Dalvin Averill. Among his many bonus grandchildren were his namesakes Joseph Sanders Brooks and Jonathan Burnam Ford.

After a private family service, a Witness to the Resurrection service will be held Saturday, December 1, at 11 a.m. at First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, Ark. led by the Rev. Phil and Jan Butin, with honored guests of the Wednesday Prayer Group of FUPC and members of the Northside Rotary Club. FRANKLIN D. JACKSON of Little Rock, born April 1, 1942 transitioned from this life on November 27, 2012. Franklin an Army veteran served in Vietnam in the 1960s, he is preceded in death by his wife Marion Jackson and his parents Frank and Cumie Jackson.

He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Reginald Wofford, two daughters Tamblyn and Monica Jackson, two grandsons, Kheri Ayers and Reginald Wofford Jr., one granddaughter, Genice Wofford, and a host of family and friends.

DETTRUS JOHNSON, 30, of Little Rock passed away Tuesday November 27, 2012. He was born May 7, 1982, in Hot Springs. Dettrus received Christ at an early age while living in San Diego, Calif., and had a love for repairing and restoring cars.

He is preceded in death by mother, Phyllis Johnson; grandfather, Eric Naquin; and uncle, Michael Johnson. Dettrus leaves to cherish his son, Dettrus Johnson Jr. known as DJ; his dad, known as “POPS” Reginald Robinson Sr.; one brother, Reginald Robinson Jr.; two sisters, De’Naizha Robinson and Ja’Niyah Johnson; his grandmother, Ollie Naquin; a special friend, Felicia Buckley; four aunts, Latoya and Benita Johnson, Erma Blade and Janice Salyers; one uncle, Carl Johnson; three very close cousins, Courtney Guy, KieVaunte Edmond and Tanisha Higgins; his biological father, Walter Holley; one stepbrother, Walter Holley Jr.; three step-sisters, Schlondon Holley-King, Toya Holley-Newman and Adriane Holley; and a host of extended family members.

MARGARET LUCILLE COLLOM MOORE, 90, of Little Rock, passed from this life Thursday, November 29, 2012. She was born December 9, 1921, in Searcy to the late George and Flossie Mullins Hall. Mrs. Moore was a follower of Christ and a member of West Race Baptist Church in Searcy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands, Junious Collom, Orville Etheridge and Brady Moore; one brother, Harold Hall; and two sisters, Juanita Dennis and Pat Whiteman. Survivors include one son, George Collom (Brenda) of Fredrick, Okla.; two daughters, Jeanette Pearson (Pate) of Little Rock, and Maridel Eye (Richard) of St. Peters, Mo.; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

ATKINS - Maxine Hays Virden of Atkins, Ark., age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 26, 2012. Her faithful Christian example was evidenced in love and service to her family. She made friends easily, accumulating lasting relationships in the communities of Western Grove, Jasper, Leslie, Dover and Atkins while supporting her husband’s career of school administration.

While living in Dover, Maxine was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Extension Homemakers Club. After moving to Atkins, she worshipped with the Memorial Presbyterian Church congregation. Even though she was a gentlewoman, committed mother and homemaker, she could hold her own playing dominoes and riding, sometimes racing, fourwheelers.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Thurman Lester (Sime) and Annie Nance Hays; a sister, Wanda Lee (Peachie) Coffman; and a brother James Don Hays. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, J.D. Virden of Russellville; son, Kelton Virden of Morrilton; son Kim Virden and wife Sue of Dover; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.

LONOKE - Merle P. Maples, Sr., age 77, of Lonoke passedaway Tuesday, November 27, 2012. He was born July 16, 1935, in Little Rock to the late Sam P. Maples and Helen Rushing. He was a retired United States Army Veteran whoserved during Korea and Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Maples, and one son Mike Maples.

He is survived by his children: Merle Presley Maples, Jr. and wife Brenda, Mark Maples and wife Centra, Martin Maples and wife Karen; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and two great-greatgrandchildren. He is survived by one sister, Tilly Strandridge, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was loved by all who knew him.

Eugene served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Heywood in the South Pacific. He retired from ReynoldsMetal Company, Jones Mills Reduction Plant, as a diesel mechanic. He was a member and deacon of Ouachita Missionary Baptist Church and previously served as a deacon at Meadow View Missionary Baptist Church. Eugene enjoyed training bird dogs, quail hunting, gardening, and was an avid Razorback fan. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, John Russell Williams, and sister, Irene Sandage.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, whom he married January 6, 1946, Wanda Smith Williams; son, Gary Williams (Phyllis) of Lafayette, Indiana; daughters, Lorraine Carroll (Bob) of Coppell, Texas, and Lisa Lake (Mike) of Bryant; sisters, Martha James of Donaldson, Agee Sutton of Walnut Creek, California, Velma Sandage of Donaldson, and Mary Johnson of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Hollie Kessler (Eric), Andrew Williams (Amy), Hunter Lake, Trent Lake, Christine Carroll and RebeccaCarroll; great-great-grandchildren, Grace and Caroline Kessler, Lucas, Owen, Josie and Jackson Williams.

Visitation will be Friday, November 30, from 6-8 p.m. at Regency Funeral Home. MONTICELLO - Thomas Junior “Red” McNeese, 81, of Monticello, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at his home. He was born February 5, 1931, in Mammoth Spring, Ark. He was a retired mechanic and a member of First Baptist Church in Monticello.

He was the son of the late Robert Thomas McNeese and Nellie Lorraine King McNeese and was also preceded in death by his wife, Donie McNeese; two brothers, Frank and Billy Joe Mc-Neese; and one sister, Carolyn Bentley.

He was born October 31, 1919, in Grant County, Arkansas, son of James Alfred Farrell and Maggie Hagan Farrell Wilson. Mr. Farrell was reared and received his early education in Watson Chapel. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Farrell was stationed in England, where he met and married his wife, Hilda Marshall Farrell April 28, 1945. Mr. Farrell was a very talented selfemployed carpenter. He was a member of Matthews Memorial Baptist Church in Pine Bluff and VFW Post 4455.

REDFIELD - Ann Wood Buchanan of Redfield, Arkansaswas born July 23, 1955 in Camden, Arkansas, the daughter of Maxine House Wood Poe and the late David Dale Wood. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sheridan, a member of the Sheridan High School Class of 1973 and was a devoted teacher for many years. She was a member of the Humane Society of Pulaski County of which she was an avid supporter.

Ann had many passions in her life. She was a devoted mother, wife, sister and friend serving as a wonderful example for all of them. She greatly enjoyed her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, animals and traveling. Ann died Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at the age of 57 at her home surrounded by her family.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mack and Bertha House of Sheridan. WEST MEMPHIS - Alfred Ray Boals, 77, of West Memphis, Arkansas died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 peacefully at his home. Mr. Boals was very involved with the city of West Memphis, he helped organize the J.W. Rich Girls Club and was the President of the Board for 7 years, he was on the WestMemphis City Council for 6 1/2 years and was the Mayor for the City of West Memphis for 4 years. He was very involved in many of the young peoples lives in West Memphis.Mr. Boals coached many softball and basketball teams, he loved the City of West Memphis and worked very hard for the community and wanted what was best for the city and the people that lived here as well.

Mr. Boals was a truck driver for 26 years for Campbell’s 66 and was the owner operator of Boals Construction & Concrete. He was a Member of the West Memphis First Baptist Church for 52 years, where he was a greeter in the Pastors Class. He was also a former member of the Kiwanas Club.
