— The State Capitol will hold its annual lighting ceremony at dusk Saturday, the Secretary of State's office said.

The lighting will occur after the Big Jingle Jubilee parade in Little Rock. Afterward, children will be able to visit Santa in the Capitol Rotunda while local choral groups perform.

The lighting ceremony has been a tradition at the Capitol since 1938 when Secretary of State Crip Hall started it as a gift to children in the Arkansas Children's Infirmary.

“This year’s event is especially meaningful, because Arkansas Children’s Hospital celebrated its hundredth birthday,” Secretary of State Mark Martin said in a news release. “In honor of that, we’re donating 10 percent of proceeds of the sales of the 2012 Capitol Christmas ornament, to the hospital.”
