According to a release from the Bryant Police Department, former ninth grade English teacher Courtney Speer will be formally charged with four counts of sexual assault, a Class A felony, and is set to turn herself in to authorities Wednesday morning at the Saline County jail.

Speer resigned from her position with the Bryant School District on Monday.

Investigators spoke with the victim, a 17-year-old male student who is also from Bryant, and brought charges against Speer after the student said he had engaged in sexual intercourse with her on four separate occasions in the Bryant High School parking lot. The student said the first encounter occurred in June.

The student also told investigators he previously had Speer as a teacher in the ninth grade.

Speer was initially supposed to meet with investigators Tuesday afternoon, but has since retained an attorney. She also faces charges out of the Benton Police Department, according to the release.
