LR police arrest murder suspect after man fatally shot

— Authorities have arrested a suspect in the death of a man who was fatally shot at a city residence Thursday night.

Opio Anton Hardin, 30, is being held on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Torence Nelson, 37.

Little Rock Police Department spokesman Sgt. Cassandra Davis said in a statement issued late Thursday that officers were called just before 10:45 p.m. to 4717 W. 22nd St. after a man later identified as Nelson was shot there.

Nelson was suffering from a single gunshot wound when police arrived. He was taken by ambulance to UAMS Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told investigators Hardin ran from the home after the shooting. Police records show he was arrested shortly after 4 a.m.

Hardin didn't speak during a brief video appearance in Little Rock District Court Friday morning. Judge Mark Leverett set his bail at $100,000.

Davis' statement said police were withholding information on the motive while the investigation continues. Prosecutors said during the hearing that witnesses identified Hardin as the person who showed up at the residence, entered and then shot the victim. No motive was discussed.

Hardin was taken into custody near Charles Bussey Avenue and Minor Street, where he was reportedly changing a flat tire.
