LR to offer grant-writing seminars

— Little Rock's Finance Department is offering free classes on grant writing and management, the city said Tuesday.

The classes are available for Little Rock city employees, neighborhood associations, outside agencies, nonprofit agencies, Little Rock sub-grant recipients and grant partners.

The city said the class sizes are limited and encourages early registration. Registration is available by contacting Caran Curry, grants manager, at (501) 371-4583 or by e-mail at ccurry@littlerock.org. The classes will be held from 2-5 p.m. in the second floor board room in City Hall at 500 W. Markham St. in Little Rock.

Six classes are available for participants. "Grant Writing 101", set for Wednesday, will focus on the importance of organizational readiness, and planning and designing grants, the city said.

"Writing the Grant Narrative," held Oct. 17, is designed for a new grant writer and will teach how to make grant applications more competitive, the city said.

"Creating a Grant Budget" will be held Oct. 24.

The fourth class, on Oct. 31, will feature a panel of grant writers who will answer questions and provide tips on grant writing.

The last two classes, "Effective Grants Management," will be held Nov. 7 and Nov. 14 and will serve people who manage federal or state grants. The city said it will also illuminate the obligations that grants entail.
