Drive-through Joplin bank robbery attempt thwarted

— A drive-through bank robbery attempt ended badly for a southwest Missouri woman.

The Joplin Globe reported that the 50-year-old suspect is being held at the Joplin City Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond. She is accused of putting a note demanding money in the drawer of a walkup window of a U.S. Bank branch in Joplin.

The Springfield woman left on foot Friday when the teller refused to comply. The woman was arrested just minutes later in the parking lot of a nearby grocery store.

Joplin Police Department Cpl. Chuck Niess said the woman wasn’t armed.
