Thorvilson invited to run NYC Marathon

— Leah Thorvilson's first-ever trip to New York City will be pretty memorable.

The Little Rock resident and four-time winner of the Little Rock Marathon was officially invited to run in ING New York City Marathon in a small gathering Wednesday morning at the Peabody Little Rock hotel.

Thorvilson, a Robbinsdale, Minn., native who has lived in Little Rock for the past 13 years — since her collegiate days running for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock — will take her first trip to The Big Apple to run in the elite division in the marathon, her 36th overall race.

Thorvilson ran in the U.S. Olympic Trials in January.

Richard Finn, the New York marathon's spokesman, made the trip to Little Rock to present Thorvilson with her racing bib for the marathon.

The New York City Marathon will be run the morning of Nov. 4 and will be televised on ESPN2.
