Ex-Little Rock officer appeals termination

— A former Little Rock police officer charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of a 15-year-old is appealing the department’s decision to fire him.

Little Rock labor and employee relations manager Stacey Witherell said Wednesday that Josh Hastings has submitted paperwork for his appeal — but a hearing date hasn’t been set yet.

Hastings was fired Friday after police said he violated department policies related to a June 25 burglary and the Aug. 12 shooting death of Bobby Moore Jr.

Hastings’ lawyer, Bill James, said he doesn’t believe Hastings did anything wrong and should be reinstated.

Hastings has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in Moore’s death. A court date has not been set.
