Information fair to cover cemetery preservation

— An informational fair on cemetery preservation has been set for Nov. 17, Arkansas Historic Preservation Program Director Frances McSwain announced this week.

The free information fair — where attendees may obtain materials on legal matters, forming nonprofit groups, cleaning and conserving monuments, landscape maintenance, organization of cemetery cleanups, National Register listings and more — will be held from noon to 4 p.m. in Morrison Hall at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 310 W. 17th St. in Little Rock.

Randy Smith of Fairview Cemetery in Van Buren will speak on cemetery advocacy, and freelance writer Abby Burnett will talk about recognizing symbols on gravestones, the agency said.

In addition, McSwain said, a webinar on the topic of landscape maintenance by the National Park Service’s National Center for Preservation, Technology and Training will be shown.

More information on the fair is available by calling Holly Hope at (501) 324-9148 or by e-mailing her at holly@arkansasheritage.org.
