Two women killed, two children hurt in crash

— Two adults were killed and two children hurt Tuesday when a sport utility vehicle collided head-on with a dump truck, authorities said.

Arkansas State Police say Andrea R. Benham, 22, was driving a Nissan Xterra west on Arkansas 226 west of U.S. 67 in Jackson County when it collided head-on with an eastbound Mack truck. It happened about 1:15 p.m.

Benham and passenger Felecia J. Davis, 25, both of Manila, died from unspecified injuries. Two children, ages 7 months and 2 years, were taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis.

The truck driver, identified as 35-year-old Kevin Long of Newport, was not injured.

Police said in a preliminary report that the wreck remains under investigation. The report didn't specify which vehicle crossed the centerline.

The deaths are the 433rd and 434th in Arkansas traffic accidents so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
