Driver killed after car runs off road, strikes tree

— A Scott man was killed Friday when his car ran off U.S. 70 and struck a tree.

Arkansas State Police said Xavier Hobbs, 18, was driving a 2001 Ford Taurus west on U.S. 70 near Olen Lane in Pulaski County when he lost control in a curve shortly before 10 a.m.

According to a preliminary report, the car veered off the highway and then hit a tree. Police say the road was wet from rains that moved through the region Friday morning.

Hobbs died from unspecified injuries. He is the 441st person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
