BEFORE SEPT. 10 The State Department decides to withdraw a supplemental security team that had bolstered Libyan embassy security between February and August. Embassy officials ask that the security team remain in place. Assistant Secretary of State Charlene Lamb turns down the request and tells the embassy “not to bother asking for additional help when the military team was sent home,” the Washington Post later reports.
