— After answering the door of his southwest Little Rock home, a man was shot and killed in his doorway late Tuesday morning, marking the third killing in the city in less than a week.

According to police, Darrin Williams, 43, heard a knock on the door of his 3 Sandhurst Circle home about 11:30 a.m. and went to answer.

Williams “addressed” someone outside before a gunshot rang out in the isolated residential drive, Little Rock Police Department spokesman Sgt. Cassandra Davis said.

Williams’ wife, as well as a toddler and an infant child, were inside the home at the time of the shooting, Davis said.

Police found Williams lying inside his doorway with blood coming from his head, reports said.

Although she couldn’t confirm or deny police-scanner chatter that Williams was shot in the face, Davis did confirm he was shot in the “upper body area.”

Davis said it was unclear Tuesday whether the gunman fired from a car or while standing on Williams’ property.

The motive behind the shooting was unknown, she said.

Neighbor Derrick Jones, 37, was in the back room of his home when he heard a single gunshot.

Jones said he ran to the front of the house in time to see what police said is the suspect vehicle, a gray or silver 2000 model Cadillac, “fireballing” away from Williams’ home and heading west on South Wakefield Drive.

Jones said he and Williams have been neighbors for four or five years, and he’s never known the man, who he said was on disability, to have any enemies or get into any problems.

Jones said he’d just dropped Williams off at his house minutes before the shooting after taking him to the store.

“Took [Williams] to Bonner’s ... he was taking in what he got for [his wife] at the store,” Jones said. “He got him a beer and a Black & Mild, his everyday routine.”

Jones said he was set to go back to Williams’ house to give the man a haircut when the shot rang out.

Williams’ killing marks the third Little Rock homicide in six days.

On Saturday, 26-year-old Victor Rosas was shot and killed outside a friend’s house on Terrace Place during an attempted robbery by an unidentified suspect, police said. According to witnesses, Rosas’ two daughters were standing outside and saw the shooting occur.

Davis said there have been no arrests in Rosas’ shooting or in a fatal shooting two days before, when police found a Star City man, Charles Hall, shot and sitting inside a running car in the middle of Fair Park Boulevard.

Hall, 27, was taken to UAMS Medical Center where he was pronounced dead Thursday.

As of Tuesday afternoon, investigators in Little Rock said there have been 44 homicides this year. At this point last year, there were 27 such cases, and the year ended with 37 homicides.

In 2010, there were 28 homicides.
